RM of Tullymet’s story
The Rural Municipality of Tullymet No. 216 incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. Its roots go back a little further, though, to the first years of settlement on the land around it.
The oldest of its three recognized heritage sites is the File Hills Post Office, also known as the Thompson Farm, built in 1900 about five kilometres south of the Town of Ituna. Two years later, in 1902, the Jewish Cemetery, also called the Lipton Jewish Cemetery, was established. It is the resting place of early Jewish immigrants from Romania.
The third site is the Tullymet Yard, once the Robertson Homestead, which was built between 1907 and 1937 and also served as the Tullymet Post Office. Today it is the office and maintenance yard of the municipality.
